My Life as a Mandarin Duck Mother

These images seem so totally appropriate for today: leaping from the nest, falling into the unknown, having faith that you will land softly, and finally, having mom lead you into the world . . .

Mandarin Ducks nest in tree holes. When the ducklings are only 24 hours old, they follow their mother and leave the nest.
They can’t fly yet, but luckily the long drop does not harm them. (Planet Earth, BBC)
