“A story is not compulsory, just a life, that’s the mistake I made, one of the mistakes, to have wanted a story for myself, whereas life alone is enough.” ~ Samuel Beckett, from “Texts for Nothing #4”

Saturday afternoon, sunny and quite warm and breezy, 84 degrees.

I should be sitting outside, but my entire body is covered with bites, so I need to wait a bit. My right hand was bitten by something a few nights ago, and as a result, my hand and arm up to elbow were both quite swollen. The fact that Corey does not get bitten or stung is probably because his blood tastes of nicotine, which almost makes me want to smoke.

Almost . . . but not quite . . .

More later. Peace.

  1. Yes, I still have it. Was diagnosed a couple months ago. In 2017 I was bit by 8 ticks in one week. I felt like I had the flu. I was tested for Lyme. It came back negative. Which was good. But I never thought of this. Seems uncommon for Ohio. But I know of a guy that has it, he breaks out in hives. One night I had ice cream and when I went to bed I noticed my face and neck was itching. I haven’t had ice cream again. As long as I can have half and half in my coffee and real butter on my toast I’m happy. And of course chocolate!

    1. Wow. That’s terrible. After you mentioned it, I did some reading on alpha gal. Apparently, the proliferation of ticks has risen a lot in the last few years. The lonestar is in my area, but I haven’t seen one. I just cannot imagine being bitten by 8 ticks. That’s horrible. Alpha gal is also on the rise. I don’t eat ice cream as much as I used to, but it’s still one of my favorite treats, so it would be horrible not to be able to eat it; that being said, I totally agree with half and half and butter. That would just be too much. Do you have to keep an epi pen with you?

  2. Watch out for ticks this year too. They are supposed to be very bad. I got bit by the lonestar tick and now have an allergy and cannot eat meat from any animal that has hooves. I truly miss bacon.

    1. Did you have any side effects? The ticks are definitely bad, but it’s gotten much better since the dogs flea and tick meds kicked in. I had one attached to my stomach. Freaked me out. Usually, I feel them as soon as they start crawling, before they attach. I hate ticks.

      1. Yes, I had been getting very sick at my stomach when I ate meat. I would itch my arms and legs like crazy. I thought I had really dry skin. The doctor ordered blood work. It came back very high positive for beef, pork and lamb. It seems to be an unusual allergy. It is different in all people. So bad in some they need to carry an epi pen. It is called alpha gal allergy if you would like to read about it.

      2. I’m so sorry to hear that. I looked up the tick when you first commented because I was unfamiliar with it and saw the side effect of what happens when you eat meat. It’s just unbelievable what can happen from such a tiny insect. Do you still have the meat allergy? Fortunately, it’s just been run of the mill ticks here, no deer ticks, no lonestar, but I’ll be on the lookout.
